PERSONAL WORK
I am in the process of creating work exploring my Irish heritage and my relationship to the Australian landscape. Prior to commencing the theme I had never known or seen photographs of my father’s parents and have since become curious about my ancestry. Through a linear process I traced back to my great grandparents and followed their journey to Australia during the Potato Famine. I imagined leaving everything behind to migrate to Australia in the 1800’s. Experiencing this through my work made me question how I relate to this country and how much of what we do and see of the world is inherent. As I followed various lines of research, mythology, memory and intuition I noticed numerous coincidences and universal connections. The linear trajectory vanished as time, place and memory began to merge from different vantage points into the work.
